Thor's Skyr opened its first flagship store on Grand Ave. in March, offering bowls, smoothies, and sjeiks (sandwiches) all using Skyr. (Photos: @thorsskyr on Instagram)

Thor's Skyr

It’s not yogurt — it’s SKYR! Founded by four totally underground guys you don't know, Thor’s Skyr is bringing a taste of Iceland to Downtown Phoenix in the form of skyr. But what the heck is it? Essentially, skyr (pronounced "SKEE-er") is a creamy, protein-packed dairy product (like Greek yogurt) with a slightly tart flavor. Although it’s primarily a health food staple, this new addition to Grand Ave. serves skyr in an approachable variety of delicious flavors and forms, like smoothies, bowls, and chilled cups to-go.

Club Contact

Gracie’s Tax Bar — a beloved (and Post Malone-approved) DTPHX hangout — recently introduced a sister concept to the neighborhood. The spinoff space, Club Contact, now lives in the historic building previously occupied by Thundercat Lounge. The community-driven bar features a nightclub setting with live music, late nights, and more spirited festivities.

A.T. Oasis Coffee & Tea Shop

A local favorite of over twelve years for Ethiopian coffee and treats recently opened its doors with a second location on the corner of 7th Ave. and Fillmore St., complete with a drive-thru and patio seating. The owner, Aisha Tedros, selects all-natural green coffee beans directly from her home country of Ethiopia. This careful attention to detail in quality and flavor is just one of the hallmarks that factored into this coffee shop earning the #8 spot on Yelp’s Top 25 Coffee Shops in the U.S. in 2024.
